School history

Limuru Girls’ School began in 1922 as Hill Preparatory School, a small girls’ school on Kiambethu Farm in Tigoni, started by the farm’s owner for his daughters and other local girls. As its first pupils grew older, it developed into Limuru Girls’ School. In 1926 the school and 60 acres of the farm were sold to the Church Commissioners’ Society, and after several more changes of owner the Kenyan government took it over in 1974.

Today it is a national public girls’ boarding school in Tigoni, Limuru, sponsored by the Anglican Church of Kenya’s Diocese of Mt. Kenya South. Its Latin motto, “In Fide Vade”, means “Go forth in faith”.
